attachment moulded into the hulls. “Many RIBs use existing fibreglass or alloy hulls and add tubes,” Carlson says. “That’s OK, but often a purpose-designed model is better than a hybrid and I think that’s the case with the Brig range.” Fibreglass certainly gives the Brig a solid feel to match its soft, quiet ride. The mouldings are nicely finished with smooth gelcoat and no rough edges and the general standard of finish is good, including fixtures and fittings. The centre- console layout is fairly standard for RIBs of this size, but the Brig is well designed with plenty of seating and stowage. PRACTICAL AND FUN In many ways RIBs are the ideal family fun boat, especially for a seaside holiday home like Carlson’s. The Carlson family uses its Brig 610 Navigator for fishing, diving and towing the kids around. It’s easy to handle, performs well and the ride ensures comfort for its occupants. It’s also a dry runner, according to Carlson – conditions weren’t rough enough for us to find out on the day we reviewed the boat – but we did establish that it hangs on like a limpet in the turns, which makes all those handholds doubly welcome. The anchoring arrangement is often a weakness with RIBs, but the Cleats Easy tie-off points Hull Track Recessed area guides and straightens your craft on the dock Buoyancy Beam Provides lateral support and extra lift when needed Aluminum Structural Beam For strength and rigidity across the dock, reducing friction and stress points on your craft Fasteners Create a strong, stable platform Pivoting pedestal winch Makes pulling and launching your craft easy KDS System Lifts the keel during drive on Bunk System Cradles your craft like a boat trailer Winch-assisted launch system.
