Boating NZ : FREE TO READ March 2014

New boats in the 50ft scene are providing great racing and attracting the rock stars. They dominated the stage at 2014 Bay of Islands Race Week in January. K ia Kaha, owned and skippered by Chris Hornell, dominated A Division at last year's Bay Week and Auckland Sailing Week but this year saw a new sheriff in town: a TP52 belonging to Harry Dodson and Tony Bosnyak – and that caused Mayhem. With some tidy work from Jim Farmer’s Georgia and Rob Bassett’s Wired, plus a Who's Who of New Zealand sailing, this year's Bay Week was a stunner. Kia Kaha recruited Team New Zealand sailors Richard Meacham and Jeremy Lomas; Brad Butterworth deftly called the shots on Georgia to take a couple of race wins, while Rob Salthouse and Peter Burling brought the big talent on Wired. The sportsboat fleet also had a few special guests as Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen joined their Artemis Racing teammate Phil Jameson and match racer LEFT: Division A winner, Harry Dodson's TP52 Mayhem.
