build new boats on traditional designs. Boat show organiser Pete Rainey says the sunny weather drew good crowds both days, and though the southerly prevented much on- water activity on Sunday there was good sailing by mid-afternoon. Rainey says holding the show a month earlier than usual was popular with visitors, with some enjoying a day out at the lake after attending the Marlborough Wine and Food Festival. This has been received warmly by Coppercoat’s New Zealand agents MEC Marine Ltd. Coppercoat is in fact a very hard wearing antifoul that, when compared to traditional ablative antifouls, has an incredibly low leach rate. Further proof of this has been evident with Coppercoat winning the Eco Friendly Marine Business Category at the Asian Marine Boating Awards. Subsequently more and more environmentally conscious boat owners are moving to Coppercoat as it is not only a long lasting antifouling product (on average lasting ten years plus) but it’s also one that is much cleaner on the environment. Recently ‘Rawina’, one of Port Taranaki’s pilot vessels, undertook a trial of various antifouling paints as nothing was working to reduce the heavy growth that they receive in a nutrient rich port. Coppercoat was applied in 2012 as a simple strip to be compared against a traditional antifoul paint and other various antifouling devices. Operations Manager, Luke Andrews’, comments are pretty clear, “I was having to lift the vessel from the water every 3 months to clean the hull to maintain speed (30 knots) and reduce load on the engines. We have just taken the boat out of the water....take a look at the pictures.....Speaks for itself really!!! I’ve tried ultrasonic hull cleaner but to no effect.” To discuss Coppercoat as an environmentally friendly antifouling option for your boat, contact MEC Marine Ltd on 09 378 4280.
