94 Boating New Zealand April 2014 industryinsight LIVEning up Coastguard COASTGUARD NEW ZEALAND is teaming up with Mediaworks Radio’s RadioLIVE to promote boating safety and prevent tragedies at sea. Coastguard New Zealand CEO Patrick Holmes says it’s about showing New Zealanders how to keep safe when they’re out enjoying themselves on the water. Jana Rangooni, RadioLIVE manager, says Coastguard does incredible work around our coastline and, although they get plenty of coverage when things go wrong for people on the water, they do so much more. To celebrate the new partnership, RadioLIVE is giving away an experience on the Drive with Duncan Garner show. One listener will get to spend an afternoon out on the water with Duncan Garner and Coastguard volunteers to see first hand what action takes place on a typical day. www.coastguard.co.nz www.radiolive.co.nz Success for Windcraft owners rally HANSE AND MOODY yachts, ranging from 35 to 57 feet, competed in a handicap race around the Hauraki Gulf, during which they kept an eye on their opponents using self-trackers. The owners had a mix of experience with some of them appreciating the support of Team Windcraft Australia and New Zealand professionals. Despite light winds and grey skies, everyone had a fabulous race with Ian Holt on the Hanse 400 Devana claiming the win. Peter and Margaret Stretton, owners of a Moody 54 DS, took home the lucky door prize of $1000 worth of Helly Hansen wet- weather gear. The overnight anchorage was Owhanake Bay on Waiheke Island. Everyone enjoyed a spit roast and drinks in the warm evening sun.
